Construction Work Is Meaningful Work

Can you imagine a job more meaningful than structures with your bare hands? Maybe you can name a few, like nursing and teaching, but we would still argue that construction work belongs on that list of really meaningful jobs. After all, we all enjoy living indoors in our homes, and those homes would not exist without construction workers and contractors. It feels so good to have a place where we can share thoughts like this! And trust us, this is just the beginning. On this blog, you should be prepared to read all about the construction industry and its many facets.

Should You Use Ready Mix Concrete For Your Home Project?

It's important to select the right type of concrete when you begin a residential construction project. Ready mix concrete is frequently used due to how efficient and convenient it is to set in residential settings since it is delivered by a commercial truck that keeps the concrete in a state where it is ready to use. Here are some pros and cons of using ready mix concrete before you make a decision.

Ready Mix Concrete Pros

A huge reason for using ready mix concrete is it is of consistent quality. The concrete is manufactured off-site in batching plants, which helps ensure that the concrete is uniform and consistent in quality and composition. You'll find that the concrete becomes much more reliable, is predictable to work with, and provides great structural integrity. If you mix concrete on site in small batches, there can be big differences across the entire project.

You'll also save significant time and labor. Ready mix concrete is delivered to your home and poured immediately. You will not spend many labor hours gathering the materials from the store, bringing them home, and mixing them on your own as you would with other types of concrete. Ready mix concrete also reduces the amount of waste produced, since you don't have tons of empty bags that the concrete came in.

Ready Mix Concrete Cons

Be aware that it is not possible to make adjustments to the ready mix concrete on site. This may be problematic if you are pouring concrete on a day when the temperature drops, and now you need additional additives in the concrete to help it set in cold weather. In addition, don't be surprised if there are limits to how you can modify the concrete prior to having it delivered, such as making concrete that is a different color.

There may also be minimum orders for ready mix concrete. This is due to the concrete being delivered in a large truck and mixed off-site, with several crew members assisting with the pouring. A job may not be worth it for a couple of square feet worth of cement, and a minimum order will be necessary.

It's also possible that you cannot get the ready mix concrete delivered exactly when you need it. A delivery must be scheduled in advance, and you could run into a problem where your construction project is not ready for concrete due to the job taking longer than expected.
